A Helping Wind is an infrequent journal about golf's ability to heal the spirit. A player has to consider the wind before hitting any golf shot. When the wind is blowing into his face, it will prevent the ball from flying as far as it should, and it's said that the wind is "hurting." But a wind coming from behind a player will give the ball added lift and carry, so it's called a "helping wind." During the 12 years since I quit drinking, I've found that golf, the game itself, provides a helping wind.
